MIAMI HURRICANE TownHOUSE

This 6,000 square foot, four story townhome, nestled in the jungly Coconut Grove section of Miami, was designed for the former Head Coach of the Miami Hurricanes football team - Mark Richt and his wife Katharyn - with the goal of combining their love for traditional furnishings with a contemporary sophistication. Interior Designer Phyllis Taylor, along with her talented team of architects, including Jeremy Taylor and Maria Rignack, transformed a heavy Mediterranean interior to a more comfortable and sophisticated tropical tableau ideal for frequent family gatherings and team recruiting events while respecting the home’s original envelope. Floored in travertine stone, the entry foyer immediately welcomes guests with a warm, rustic staircase of hickory wood steps and blackened steel balustrades along with a dramatic sculptural light fixture designed to span the full four-level height of the stairway. Using the couple’s original country-style furniture from their previous home in Georgia, as well as their art pieces that celebrate a commitment to their faith, Phyllis Taylor used warm woods and colors like taupe and green plucked from the exterior landscaping and a variety of new, contemporary fabrics and furniture to seamlessly tie the design together.
